Horse Portraits
Below is a small selection of horse portraits I have painted over the last 20 years.
Gary
A big gorgeous bay horse called Gary. Bay horses can be so many different colours depending on the sunlight, whether they have their summer or winter coat. I had a selection of images to work from so went for more of the summer coat colour.

Ade and Nim
Ade and Nim, a gorgeous bright bay and what is actually a skewbald. It took 2 photo shoots to get the lovely pose of Ade, the first time he was a bit down, the 2nd a herd of deer captured his attention. Nim was straight away alert.
I really enjoyed painting horses again, and look forward to many more.
'beyond delighted with them!'

Bay Stallion
During lockdown i started going through old photos to look for subjects to draw, and come across this handsome chap. Being a stallion they tend to have a glossy coat, and I am amazed by the number of colours I used to get the shine on his coat and what fun I had in doing so.

Coco
This lovely mare is leased by a friend, who commissioned me to do a painting of Coco for her owners. I have on good authority they loved it.

Alfie the Shire
Shire horses are one of my favourite breeds, Alfie was no exception and stood at approx 17.2hh. I absolutely loved painting his picture.

Breeze
I completed this picture back in 2010 from a photo supplied by the owner.
Pastel Pencils and Soft Pastel on Hahnemuhle Pastel Paper
These 2 bay horses were commissioned in around 2002. Produced on Colourfix Paper with Soft Pastels and Pastel Pencils. The final pictures were scanned rather than photographed, hence they look a little different from my other images.
I'm not sure the pictures would have had the same impact if I had painted them without their bridles on.
