Introduction

I work from photos to produce the realistic paintings of your pets.  I normally require one  high quality photo to work from showing details such as their eyes, nose and whiskers and their character, and several other photos for reference material to show the colour of the fur.  For example, with black coated animals when they are in sunlight their coats can show either a blue  or a mahogany tinge.

The painting takes between 4 to 6 weeks, longer if for multiple subjects, depending on the number.

Provided below are tips for taking photos .  If you are local to me in West Berkshire in the UK, I am happy to come along and take photos if easier.

Please contact me in the first instance to discuss requirements and any questions you may have, eg a special date you want the picture for.

Photos - tips

  • The best photos are ones which have been taken in natural daylight, preferably in the morning or late afternoon when the sun is lower in the sky.
  • Get down on your pets level so they are looking ahead, not up at you or down at you.
  • I have provided a photo of my own dog here as an example.  You can see clearly the eyes, nose and fur direction.

Pets Past -   If, as can be the case for a lot of pet commissions, your loved pet is no longer with us, please send me the photos of what you have and I will see if there is enough to produce a painting from.
